Ursolic acid reduces body weight and increases insulin sensitivity

Ursolic acid can help in managing metabolic syndrome, according to a study published in the Journal of Medicinal Food. The study investigated the effects of ursolic acid on the components of metabolic syndrome, such as inflammation and insulin sensitivity.

  • The study was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial with 24 participants, 30 to 60 years old, all of whom were diagnosed with metabolic syndrome without treatment.
  • These participants were randomly assigned to one of two groups with 12 members each. One group was assigned a placebo, while the other was required to take 150 mg of ursolic acid orally once a day for 12 weeks.
  • Prior to and after the treatment, the researchers evaluated the patients’ insulin sensitivity and inflammation profile. They noted that after the treatment, 50 percent of the participants entered remission, along with significant reductions in body weight, body mass index, waist circumference, fasting glucose, and insulin sensitivity.

The researchers concluded that the administration of ursolic acid has benefits on individuals with metabolic syndrome, particularly in terms of aspects like body weight, waist circumference, fasting glucose, and insulin sensitivity.
